Online Learning

Community College of Philadelphia provides a variety of courses and degree programs online and in hybrid (classroom/online) environments. Online courses are just as rigorous and demanding as our classroom courses.

Asynchronous Online Courses

Asynchronous online courses, delivered through a course management system allowing 24/7 access, do not require students to be online at specific times; instead, students log in regularly at their convenience to keep up with course requirements, due dates, etc.

Synchronous Online Courses

Synchronous class requires that you are online with your professor and classmates on the days and times listed for the class.  Synchronous classes also include online components such as course materials, homework and assignments.

Hybrid Courses

Hybrid courses, combining both classroom and online teaching, meet in the classroom regularly and are supplemented with online lessons throughout the week. Classroom attendance is mandatory for all hybrid courses.

Out-of-State Students

SARA LogoCommunity College of Philadelphia is fully accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, and is a member of the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA).   The goal of SARA is to make it easier for students to take online courses offered by postsecondary institutions based in another state.

Forty-nine states plus U.S. territories participate in SARA.

California is the only state that does not participate in SARA, but as a public institution, CCP can offer courses to students in California.  California is accepting complaints from residents regarding public and non-profit institutions through the state's Department of Consumer Affairs

Professional Licensure Programs

SARA has no effect upon professional licensing requirements.  As these requirements differ from state to state, students enrolled in a program leading to professional licensure should contact the appropriate accrediting organization within their home state for final determination as to whether their state’s licensing/certification requirements would be met upon successful completion of that program of study. Students should contact the Department Head of their program of study for help finding the appropriate accrediting organization within their home state.

International Students

Community College of Philadelphia makes every effort to comply with any foreign country's regulations concerning online learning. If you are participating in an online course/program from outside of the United States, please review your country's regulations regarding any limitations on online/distance education the country may impose.

Complaint Process

Out-of-state students who have a comment or wish to share feedback should follow procedures found on the Concerns and Complaints page.

IMPORTANT: A number of the College’s online courses require in-person testing. Be sure to review the course’s requirements in the Syllabus prior to registering for it.
