Throughout the month of Sept. to Oct. 13, the College will celebrate the diversity, contributions, and influence of individuals from Latine and Hispanic-identifying communities

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia has announced that throughout the month of Sept. until Oct. 13, it will celebrate Latine Heritage Month, also recognized as Hispanic Heritage Month, by paying tribute to the diversity, contributions, and influence of individuals from Latine and Hispanic-identifying communities. This year’s theme is “Empowering Latines through Education.”

The signature event will include a luncheon and keynote address from Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa. The event will take place at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21 at the Great Hall in the Winnet Student Life Building, room S2-19, 1700 Spring Garden Street, Philadelphia, PA 19130

In May, Hinojosa, and her company Futuro Media, won a Pulitzer Prize in audio recording for the seven-part podcast series “Suave.” The podcast takes a deep dive into the life of Luis “Suave” Gonzalez, a former juvenile lifer, during and after serving more than 30 years in prison.

Gonzalez is the College’s first support coach for the I Am More Reentry Engagement Program which seeks to holistically address the academic, career and social needs of justice-involved students as they pursue a certificate or associate degree at the College.

To RSVP for the College’s Latine Heritage Month luncheon and keynote event with Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Maria Hinojosa at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, please email Barry Johnson at btjohnson@ccp.edu
