Community College of Philadelphia to Celebrate National Voter Registration Day with #CCPVotes Kick-Off Event

State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta will join the College to discuss the importance of participating in the upcoming midterm elections 

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia announced that it will kick off its semester-long #CCPVotes initiative on National Voter Registration Day. The kick-off event will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20 in the Bonnell Building Lobby, 1700 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA 19130. The main entrance to the Bonnell Building is on 17th Street between Spring Garden and Callowhill streets. 

Throughout the event, #CCPVotes and the College’s Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership will register the College community to vote and educate them on the importance of participating in the midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 8. State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, who represents Pennsylvania’s 181st Legislative District, will serve as the special guest speaker. Attendees will be able to enjoy free food, drinks, and swag, in addition to participating in fun activities that ensure they are prepared to vote in November.  

In addition to Rep. Kenyatta, featured speakers include Dr. David E. Thomas, College vice president for Strategic Initiatives and Community Engagement and Michelle Lopez, director of the College’s Institute for Community Engagement and Civic Leadership.  

#CCPVotes is a multi-year civic-engagement initiative designed to engage students in the College community and the electoral process. The College is providing educational programming leading up to the Pennsylvania midterm election on Tuesday, Nov. 8. 

Voter registration stations will be set up throughout the College’s Main Campus up until Monday, Oct. 24 – the last day to register to vote in the midterm elections. The College community will be able to stop by to register to vote or update their voter registration information on the following dates: Sept. 29, Oct. 5, Oct. 6, Oct. 12, Oct. 20 and Oct. 24.
