Community College of Philadelphia to Host Inaugural Catto Legacy Awards The College will celebrate the first Catto Scholar to graduate and honor the legacy of Octavius V. Catto PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia announced that it will host the inaugural Catto Legacy Awards to celebrate the accomplishments of the nearly 500 students who have benefited from the Octavius Catto Scholarship. The virtual event will take place on Catto’s birthday at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.

The program will include remarks from special guest speakers, giveaways, and an awards presentation to showcase the outstanding achievements of our Catto Scholars over the past year.

Speakers include: Dr. Donald “Guy” Generals, College president; Mayor Jim Kenney; Idris Washington, class of 2021 and the first Catto Scholar to graduate; Dr. April Voltz, executive director of the Octavius Catto Scholarship; Dr. Aubria Nance, associate director of the Octavius Catto Scholarship; Dr. David E. Thomas, vice president for Strategic Initiatives & Community Engagement at the College; Richard Gordon IV, principal of Paul Robeson High School and 2020-21 National Principal of the Year; and additional student speakers.

Named after Octavius V. Catto, an educator and civil rights activist, Catto Scholars are first time, full-time students who attend the College debt-free. In addition to fully covering the cost of tuition, Catto Scholars also receive funding to cover the cost of books; supplemental funding for transportation and meals; enhanced academic success and career coaching; specialized workshops and programming; and connections to resources like housing assistance and child care.
