The College is one of 23 nursing programs, and the only community college, across the nation to receive the designation

PHILADELPHIA – Community College of Philadelphia announced that its nursing program has been named a 2021 Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the National League for Nursing (NLN). The College’s nursing program received the designation for its excellence in enhancing student learning and professional development. The College is one of 23 nursing programs, and the only community college, across the nation to receive the designation

The designation is designed for nursing schools and health care organizations that have achieved a level of excellence in a specific area. Through public recognition and distinction, the program acknowledges the outstanding innovations, commitment, and sustainability of excellence these organizations convey.

“The College continues to be amazed at how our Nursing program constantly raises the bar and sets the standard for nursing programs in our region,” said College President Dr. Donald Guy Generals. “From tackling the opioid epidemic, to supporting vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, our nursing faculty and students remain committed to providing community based health where they work to keep people healthy before they get sick.”

The first designations were awarded to schools of nursing in 2004 and the first designations for health care organizations were awarded in 2012. Currently, 79 institutions hold the NLN Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation.

NLN President and CEO Beverly Malone, PhD, RN, FANN, said, “National League for Nursing Centers of Excellence help raise the bar for all nursing programs by role modeling visionary leadership and environments of inclusive excellence that nurture the next generation of a strong and diverse nursing workforce to advance the health of the nation and the global community.”
