LIGHTS! CAMERA! CRIME! - THE MEDIA AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE” SPOTLIGHTED AT COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF PHILADELPHIA

PHILADELPHIA, February 28, 2007 - Community College of Philadelphia will host representatives of the city's major news media and a top law enforcement officials for a frank discussion of crime reporting in the city. The popular panel, "Lights! Camera! Crime!: The Media and Criminal Justice," is returning as part of the College's Eighth Annual Law and Society Week observances. The event is free and open to the public.

The panel discussion will be held Thursday, March 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. in Room S2-3 in the Winnet Student Life building on the west side of 17th Street, between Spring Garden and Callowhill streets. Panelists will include Mike Strug of Channel 10 NBC News, Simone Weichselbaum and David Gambacorta of the Philadelphia Daily News, and Robin Mackintosh of Channel 3 CBS News. The forum will be moderated by Chief Inspector William Colarulo of the Philadelphia Police Department.

Other events occurring at the College in the concluding days of Law and Society Week include:

  • "Philadelphia C.S.I.," a presentation by the Philadelphia Police Department's Crime Scene Unit -- Thursday, March 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. in the Large Auditorium, in the Bonnell Building on the east side of 17th Street, between Spring Garden and Callowhill streets
  • "The Sopranos, Philly Style: A Conversation with George Anastasia," featuring the Pulitzer Prize nominated reporter for The Philadelphia Inquirer, speaking on his experiences covering the Philadelphia mob, Thursday, March 1 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room 214 at the College's Northeast Regional Center, 12901 Townsend Road.
  • The Philadelphia Mayoral Candidate Forum on Friday, March 2 from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. in the Large Auditorium in the Bonnell Building. The forum will be moderated by Zachary Stalberg, president and CEO of the Committee of Seventy, and Nia Ngina Meeks, a freelance writer and political analyst. The forum is co-sponsored by the College's Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, Rho Upsilon Chapter. Questions will be welcomed from the audience.
