Parkway Center City Middle College students attend their first classes at Community College of Philadelphia as their Summer Bridge Program begin

PHILADELPHIA – Students across Philadelphia started summer break three weeks ago but for the first class of Middle College, which is the first of its kind in the city, it is already time to go back to school. On Tuesday, July 11, ninth-grade students will start their first day of classes at the summer bridge program at Community College of Philadelphia. By the end of the program, they may have their first college credit; eventually, they will have an opportunity to earn an associate’s degree by the time they graduate from high school.

Middle College High Schools are innovative, evidence-based school models designed to provide students with the unique opportunity to take a blend of high school and college-level courses. Students will have the opportunity to earn an Associate's degree in Liberal Arts or one of two certificates in Entrepreneurship or Computer Programming and Software Development. In addition, they can take advantage of specialized programs such as the inquiry-based learning project in Science and Social Studies, and the Arts Futures program.
