No matter what field you plan to enter, the ability to think critically and understand the world in a variety of contexts is indispensable. Likewise, the ability to interpret complex ideas and convey them in writing can be a huge asset when working towards managerial, consulting, and higher-level roles in any organization. Though your chosen field may be technical by nature, disciplines across the board require these skills for writing, organizing, and conducting research, putting together reports, communicating with customers or vendors, and more. Students who plan to enter honors programs at four-year universities would find this certificate to be a perfect precursor.
Our Liberal Arts: Honors program has created this certificate to allow students outside of the major to enhance their degree paths by integrating honors coursework and modes of thinking into their academic plan. These classes will challenge you to engage in discourse to strengthen your professional speaking and listening skills and to better understand the world around you through a historical lens. Critical modalities such as race, gender, class, sexuality, culture, and time period will be explored through media like essays, films, plays, novels and poetry. Students will be in a small to medium-sized cohort with students in the program meaning they will build trust with their classmates to foster deeper levels of conversation, analysis, and academic growth.
