Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate

Accelerate your career with the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Certificate. Stories about racial tension and political unrest are featured daily in the news, detailing the current state of our country. Organizations and companies are challenged to understand how they can respond to their employees' needs for safety and acceptance. As the world changes, organizations must change as well. Become the leader that fosters supportive dialogue to create transformative change. Find ways to create culturally aware work environments that are respectful, inclusive and harmonious. With this certificate, learn the universal in-demand skills needed to empower your team by building a diverse and inclusive work culture.

The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Certificate has six workshops that address current issues that may arise in the workplace. This certificate helps you:

  • Realize the benefits of diversity
  • Increase your cultural knowledge
  • Increase inclusion of different groups
  • Become aware of unconscious bias
  • Promote better teamwork

These workshops were developed specifically to address issues that will help individuals understand themselves and encourage respectful communication with colleagues. Organizations that embrace diversity promote better teamwork, motivate positive behaviors, and encourage a respectful workplace to increase employee engagement.

Participants must successfully complete all six workshops to receive this certificate. Workshops may also be taken independently to meet your specific career needs or interests.

What Is Hidden Bias and How Do I Overcome It?

Hidden bias refers to the attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions and decisions in an unconscious manner. Hidden bias is a sensitive subject. It is eye-opening to understand how hidden bias comes into play and is evident in everyone in some shape or form. Define and explore the concept of hidden biases that can unintentionally result in actions for or against a person, thing or group held at an unconscious level. Participants learn how society has taught them their bias and encourages them to seek self-improvement by developing strategies to counter hidden bias.

This workshop covers a lot of ground: defining key terms, outlining discrimination in the workplace, investigating types of hidden bias, identifying how we learn hidden bias, and discovering how to test for hidden bias. Most importantly, learn how to actively overcome hidden bias. Participants will use a variety of self–assessments, small group discussion and large group process, to help identify stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination, and personal biases.

Creating an Inclusive Workplace

While diversity refers to increasing numbers of minorities, inclusion is about cultivating and sustaining a climate that is welcoming and safe for those minorities. Diversity without inclusion is a short-sighted strategy and will not help build a sustainable, diverse workforce. It is important for participants to emphasize that brave discomfort is necessary for cognitive growth. Learn how to foster participation and inclusion in your work environment. Participants will see themselves as agents of change and a crucial part of cultivating a workspace that is culturally competent and responsive. Contextualize inclusion as an integral strain of diversity work by focusing on key approaches, strategies, activities and data to foster optimum participant engagement. By the conclusion of this workshop, you will be able to determine key diversity terms, understand the importance and economic impact of inclusion, and identify characteristics of an inclusive workplace.
