The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Emissions Inspector Certification workshop is open to individuals without prior emission certification or technical training. Successful completion of the course and test qualifies the individual to inspect and pass/fail a vehicle for emissions certification. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Safety Inspection Mechanic Training is open to individuals seeking to become a certified safety inspection mechanic.
Emissions Inspector Certification
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Enhanced Emissions Inspector Certification class is open to individuals without prior emission certification or technical training. The program includes theory; on board diagnostics II; a computer-based test and hands-on tactile. Successful completion of the program and test qualifies the individual to inspect and pass/fail a vehicle for emissions certification. Participants must bring their photo identification/driver's license to class. Students do not have to be 18 to enroll in the course; however, they must be at least 18 and have a valid driver's license to become a PA certified enhanced emissions inspector. Plan to arrive at the first class 15 minutes early.
After registering for this class online or in person, students must complete this FERPA form and provide their driver's license number. If you have an out of state license you must also provide a photo copy of your license. The FERPA form and copy of out of state driver's license can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or faxed to Jeff Beachley at 267-299-5933. IN ADDITION to registering with CCP for this class, PennDot requires that you register online at www.patrainingportal.com and download the training manual prior to the first day of class. You must pay PennDOT a $39.99 fee with a credit card; this fee includes training manual, online testing code, certificate, and ID cards. (Note: PennDot’s exam and training materials fee is in addition to the fee for this 8-hour class.)

Safety Inspection Mechanic Training
This Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Safety Inspection Mechanic training course instructs participants to inspect motor vehicles under the Vehicle Equipment and Inspection Regulations. Both written and hands-on tactile examinations must be passed for successful completion of the course. All materials are provided. Bring photo ID/driver's license to class. Note: The 60-minute tactile exam is scheduled additionally at a designated time and date after the last class date. If registering online, download a copy of the training manual and review before the start of class or pick up your copy at Main Campus, Center for Business and Industry room C1-09.

Safety Inspection Mechanic Recertification Review
Safety Inspection recertification is mandatory five years from initial certification. You may renew your mechanic certification by passing the required Pennsylvania Department of Transportation examination within 180 days of notification from the state that your mechanic card is due to expire. This recertification requires you to pass PennDOT’s online exam in order to renew your certification for another five years Recertification Review training provides you the opportunity to review the Safety Inspection Mechanic curriculum with an instructor in an in-class format to answer questions and help to improve your content comprehension prior to taking PennDOT’s online exam.
You must register and pay PennDOT separately to take the online recertification exam, at https://www.patrainingportal.com/. This review course fee does not include the exam fee.
