Honoring Hometown Heroes: Emlen Tunnell
An African-American History Month Breakfast Event
8:30 to 10:10 a.m., Winnet Student Life Building, Great Hall, Room S2-19
Born in Bryn Mawr in 1925 and raised in Radnor, Emlen "The Gremlin" Tunnell will be memorialized for achieving several “firsts” with a seven-foot bronze statue soon to be unveiled at the Radnor Township Building, home of the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum. His name will also be emblazoned on a U.S. Coast Guard Cutter for two major feats of heroism while serving in the Coast Guard during WWII. Join us for a lively discussion about the first African-American to be inducted into the Professional Football Hall of Fame, which occurred in 1967. Breakfast begins at 8:30 a.m. and the program begins at 9:10 a.m. Presented by Team Tunnell and moderated by Jim Vankoski, president of the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum.
