Once again, Community College of Philadelphia was invited to participate at the city's signature site for Martin Luther King Day of Service 2017. Come out and join the College family at Girard College, 2101 S. College Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19121 on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, from 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Each participant will receive the official MLK Day of Service T-Shirt upon arrival, continental breakfast, lunch and have the choice of over 100 service projects.
Projects include those sponsored by the College's Student Leadership and Involvement Center, Student Ambassador Program and Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) International Honor Society:
- Visit the Civic Engagement Expo. Take the opportunity to write a thank you letter to President Obama for his eight years of service or write on the Peace Wall.
- Visit the Kids Carnival. There is something for everyone, no matter the age. They will be able to create their own Peace bracelets and receive a Famous Philadelphians Coloring Book authored by the members of PTK. Get them engaged early!
- Visit the Health and Wellness Fair. Create a Valentine's Day card and frame for seniors living in assisted living housing.
- Participate in the Toy Drive for the children of the Youth Council. Toys are being collected now until Dec. 10 in front of the Student Leadership and Involvement Center, Room S1-12 or bring them to Girard College. Wish list can be picked up in front of Room S1-12.
- Don’t forget to enjoy Levi “The Traveler” - The African Drummer and Griot.
