Community Startup Accelerator

Power Up's Community Startup Accelerator aims to provide entrepreneurs with quality business training, coaching support and technical assistance to build sustainable and scalable businesses. New businesses will be given step-by-step processes and tools to lay a strong foundation to develop their business. Technical assistance, coaching, mentoring and access to additional resources will be provided to help businesses set and achieve their business goals.

Who Should Apply

This program is intended for home-based and side businesses interested in finding the right business model and building a solid foundation for their businesses to thrive. Minority or immigrant entrepreneurs who meet the following criteria are particularly encouraged to apply: 

  • If the business is up and running
  • Has products/services and making sales
  • Needs a growth plan/scaling strategy
  • Needs professional help setting up the foundational infrastructure
    • This includes setting up proper tax structure, entity selection and incorporation, setting up an accounting system, developing a human resources policy and processes, creating a marketing strategy, setting up business operations and processes
  • Needs help with credit building and access to finance
  • Needs access to networks, mentoring and coaching
  • Business is in Philadelphia

  • Business Coach: Each entrepreneur is paired with a business coach to guide you throughout the training
  • Professional Service: Access to legal, accounting, HR, branding and marketing professionals to make sure your business is established correctly and has the right processes and technology to optimize operations for scaling and profitability

  • Resources: Access additional business development workshops and resources from partner organizations

Course Schedule

These courses target the unique specific needs of startup businesses to foster stability, organization and growth as you embark on the challenges of running a new business. Small business experts will lead a deep dive into your business structure and build a solid foundation for business growth. Each cohort, offered to small businesses for free, comprises of twelve weeks of three-hour workshops designed to help set the foundation for a successful business.

Timeline

  • The deadline for Cohort 5 applications is November 14, 2021.
  • This is a 12-week class that meets once a week for 3 hours. Classes are Tuesdays, November 30, 2021 through March 22, 2022, from 6 to 9 p.m.
