Joseph and Marie Field Foundation Opportunity Scholarship
For students who had to put their dreams on hold after high school, the Joseph and Marie Field Foundation Opportunity Scholarship gives them a chance to keep pursuing their academic goals. Since fall 2019, $1 million in generous support has put a degree or certificate within reach for 236 students who otherwise may not have had the opportunity to realize their potential. During the 2023–24 academic year, 44 students were awarded the Joseph and Marie Field Foundation Opportunity Scholarship, with 24 graduating from the College.
“When I first arrived at the Community College of Philadelphia, I had low expectations. My initial goal was simply to earn my associate degree and be done with school. However, over the past year, I have developed a genuine love for education. After my first year, I was awarded the Joseph and Marie Field Scholarship, which allowed me to focus on exploring opportunities at school, gave me the chance to meet incredible people and join various organizations, where I have had the pleasure of mentoring students and working with a diverse group of individuals. Now, I never want to leave school!”

Judy Simon: Championing Dreams with the Boo and Loo Scholarship
In 2022, Judy Simon established the Boo and Loo Scholarship with a heartfelt mission: to empower students striving for a brighter future. Over the past two years, her remarkable generosity has contributed more than $100,000 to scholarship funds and student emergency support at Community College of Philadelphia.
Named for Judy and her husband's nicknames for each other, the Boo and Loo Scholarship is a lifeline for students pursuing associate degrees, certificate programs, and workforce development opportunities. In the 2023-2024 fiscal year alone, the scholarship supported 21 students—14 pursuing academic credentials and seven advancing their skills through workforce development.
“I commend these students who are determined to be the first in their family to graduate college,” Judy shares. “Their stories speak so passionately of wanting to make something of themselves. They have dreams, and I wanted to help them achieve those dreams and goals. I’m so proud of them.”
Dana S., one of the scholarship recipients, embodies the transformative impact of Judy’s support. “This scholarship is so important to me because, as a single parent, it has been very difficult to continue my education, with financial constraints being the biggest hindrance. I have wanted to return to school for many years and found it to be out of my reach due to lack of resources. Being afforded this opportunity has given me a renewed sense of hope.”
