Industrial Welding Pre-Apprenticeship

Gain the Skills Needed for a Career in Welding

The Industrial Welding Registered Pre-Apprenticeship program prepares individuals with foundational welding training and the professional skills needed for entry into welding employment and apprenticeship programs. The program includes classroom and hands-on technical skills instruction. 


In addition to technical training, the Industrial Welding Pre-Apprenticeship program teaches the critical skills needed to find and keep employment in the welding field, including applied shop mathematics, blueprint reading, critical thinking, problem solving, interpersonal skills, résumé preparation and job search tools. These skills are covered in the program through the following courses:

  • Career Readiness Skills – 49 hours
    • Critical Thinking; Working in Teams; Problem Solving; Interpersonal Communication; Winning Work Habits Overview; Budget Basics; ACT WorkKeys
  • Shop Math- 45 hours
  • Blueprint Reading for Welders – 24 hours
  • Welding Training – 160 hours
    • Online American Welding Society Training – 20 hours
    • Hands-on Instruction – 140 hours

Upon completion of the program, participants will earn a Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Participants will complete the program with the skills to take the American Welding Society qualification upon employment. This program is aligned with Rhoads Industries Registered Welder/Cutter/Fitter Apprenticeship Program.
