Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Prepare for Employment in Manufacturing Careers

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic (IMM) Pre-Apprenticeship program prepares participants for entry-level employment in manufacturing careers, and for seamless entry into the Industrial Maintenance Mechanic Registered Apprenticeship Program or continued education. The program includes classroom instruction and a national industry-recognized certification.

Students in this program will gain foundational knowledge and critical skills in four areas: fluid power, industrial electricity, mechanical components and introductory mechatronics. The program builds toward a basic understanding of mechatronics, the synergistic application of mechanical, electrical and controls engineering, combined with computer science to build and maintain high-tech equipment.

These skills are covered in the program through the following courses:

  • Foundations of Industry 4.0 (12 hours)
  • Intro to Mechatronics (60 hours)
  • Electricity 1 (45 hours)
  • Applied Hydraulics, Pneumatics & Hydrostatic (75 hours)
  • Mechanisms 1 (75 hours)
  • Winning Work Habits (6 hours)

Participants will receive support with résumé development, job searching and interview preparation. Participants will also receive support in identifying and applying to open entry-level manufacturing positions.

Upon completion of the program, participants will receive a certificate of completion. In addition, participants will participate in ACT WorkKeys curriculum and will take the assessment for the National Career Readiness certification. Pre-apprentices will be able to take five mechatronics certification tests, offered by NC3 and Festo: Foundations of Industry 4.0, Intro to Mechatronics, Fundamentals of Electricity - AC/DC, Fundamentals of Fluid Power - Pneumatics/Hydraulics, and Fundamentals of Mechanical Systems.

The IMM pre-apprenticeship aligns with JEVS Human Services Philadelphia's Tri-state Apprenticeship Program.
